I would add that the end of the USSR would seem to be presaged by, admittedly in retrospect, seemingly small events that stick in the craw of the narrative. To me the removal of UKplc national service signaled a return to the status quo ante for London. I.e. the world was now under their management again. So the peaceful folding of the bear in c1990 is a real delayed signal of what was really going on.

Anyway the WHITE terror which comes after the GREEN must have its roots sown in the immediate 1960 period when the trouble makers in London could get down to some good old fashioned long range planning.
